Ganni-Inspired Burda Style 1/2022 118 Dress
I usually don't get excited about any of the Pinterest fashion trends, but this is the one I couldn't resist - the famous Ganni blouse with bodice ties! I did tweak it into a dress that matched my style though.
After seeing all of the Ganni-inspired tops for months I thought of two things:
2. it's very practical for breastfeeding.
I didn't want to make a blouse though, since I find dresses much more practical. I also wasn't into the idea of a loose design that isn't supposed to be worn with a belt.
The best option seemed to be a dress with a simple gathered skirt and quite a roomy bodice with a belt. I wanted my dress to be a nice casual one, for hot summer (hence the loose fit), but with covered shoulders which is perfect for sunny days.
I hacked the Burda Style 1/2022 #118 pattern. In reality this dress can be made with any pattern with a loose bodice. As for my choice, that's what I've done:
- dropped the waistline (it's quite a high one);
- split the bodice front in the centre;
- adjusted the bodice front and back pieces so they cover the shoulders;
- used bias tape to finish the neckhole, armholes and centre front (I made it myself from the same fabric);
- added the ties, of course;
- added a thin belt.
- added a thin belt.
There is not much to say about the fit - it's a loose dress and it's fitted with a belt. I placed the ties in such a way that there is one pair exactly at the widest point of the bust - same as what I'd do with buttons.
I used vintage floral fabric from my stash. I assume it's a cotton lawn, but it's an extremely silky version of it! I even did a burn test to make sure there are no synthetic fibres added to it - which is not the case. I guess it may have some viscose added to it, or it's 100% cotton which was treated in a specific way. It'd definitely make it not as durable and lasting but it's sooo comfortable and smooth!
I love my dress and I'm so happy I squeezed it in between other projects. I'll definitely enjoy wearing it until it gets too cold for it.
