Butterick 5748 With a Square Neckline and Pleated Skirt

Creating beautiful dresses without any specific event in mind is a true pleasure for me. Working with luxurious fabrics and honing my couture skills is a therapeutic experience. This latest dress project was particularly enjoyable, even though it did not require any new techniques.
For years, I've been dreaming of sewing a stunning golden dress. Initially, I had planned on using sequins, but the idea was always put on hold due to the mess that comes with working with sequins. However, my desire for a golden dress resurfaced when I stumbled upon a breathtaking brocade fabric on Minerva. What drew me to this fabric was its composition - predominantly natural fibers, which is a preference of mine over synthetic materials for most clothing items.

The fabric, a combination of acetate and viscose, exuded luxury from the moment I received it. It felt and looked far more expensive than its actual price tag. Pre-washing was a breeze, and pressing the fabric was a seamless process with the help of my wooden iron. The pattern of the fabric, with its stripes, presented a slight challenge in showcasing it effectively. Despite the time constraints imposed by my toddler, I opted for a simpler design to do justice to the fabric's beauty.

I chose a Butterick 5748 pattern for the bodice but modified it by opting for a square neckline to complement the fabric's texture. Fully lining the dress and adding facings were necessary adjustments. The skirt, a pleated design, was created with intuitive folding and trimming to match the bodice seamlessly. I even contemplated using the excess fabric to craft a matching belt for the dress.

The end result exceeded my expectations, and I eagerly await the perfect occasion to flaunt this dress. I wholeheartedly recommend the fabric for other special projects like jackets, skirts, or trousers. Its quality and elegance are truly exceptional.
